Living Lightly on the Land

At Pinheirinho, sustainability is more than a principle – it is the rhythm of life itself. Since 2022, in collaboration with a team of experienced environmental consultants, our team has mapped the presence of native fauna, fragile habitats, and invasive species across the estate. This vital work allows us to restore balance to the landscape, gradually replacing invasive flora, like the acacia, with protected species – including native pines and various types of wild armeria – as part of our broader efforts to preserve natural habitats and conserve biodiversity.

As guardians of this delicate environment, we have installed more than thirty nesting boxes for local birdlife, including the chapim and the trepadeira-azul, encouraging their safe return to the forest canopy. Alongside these conservation measures, we conduct responsible operations. Water from rainfall and treatment systems is gently returned to our lakes and then used to irrigate the golf course, completing a self-sustaining cycle. Our environmental impact study, carried out at the time of licensing, guides these actions with annually monitored measures outlined in a formal environmental impact statement.

Each effort is taken with intention — not only to preserve, but to rejuvenate.

To support this vision, we are pursuing certifications from leading global sustainability frameworks — including LEED® for the Club House and Six Senses Comporta and BREEAM for future villas.

At Pinheirinho, to build is not to impose — it is to honour the natural world with care, humility, and foresight.

A Gentle Architecture of Responsibility

The essence of Pinheirinho lies in its deep respect for place — every home, path, and view is shaped by our Architecture & Construction Guidelines, which are currently in effect and strictly upheld. These ensure each structure blends quietly into the natural canvas, echoing the land’s soft contours. Alongside this, we have initiated projects that not only reinforce our connection to our community and coastline — from the construction of affordable housing for staff, to the organisation of beach clean-up efforts — but also raise local environmental awareness.

Living well means living lightly and leaving space for what truly matters
